Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage
The reading and lecture are both about the endotherms animal which are likely to be maintain their body temeprature regardless of the variance in climatic condition. The author of the reading states that since modern reptiles were not considered an endotherm, dinosaur too were not referred as endotherm. However, dinosaur were not analogous to modern reptile in some ways, now they were presumed to be endotherm. The lecturer disagrees. He mention there is no any evidence to prove dinosaur as an endotherm and attacks each of the claims made in the article.
Firstly, the author begins by stating that fossil found in polar domain can determine the dinosaur as endotherm since only animal which can maintain their tempereture stable could survive in such cold climate. The professor believes there are flaws in the writer’s position. He contends that back then the climate used to be warmer than today. So, with this climate they could easily survive in the polar. In addition, during winter they migrated to hot area or hibernated to shield themself from cooler temperature.
Secondly, according to the passage leg situated underneath rather than on sides and the effecient movement such as running is another major trait of endotherm. Besides, modern dinosaur had their leg positioned under their body elaborates they were endotherm. The speaker on other hand points out that in order to brace their weight they have had leg beneath their body. Furthermore, the more they could support their weight, they more they would grow in size. Therefore, leg position doesnot suppor the idea of dinosaur to be endotherm.
Finally, the reading passage notes that dinosaur had harvesian cannel which is directly connected with the physiolofy of endotherm. To be more precise, this cannel helped them to burgeon irrespective of any weather. The professor rebiuts this argument. He puts forth the idea that although they had harvesian cannel they too had growth ring which made their bone thick resulting slow growth during cooler climate. Moreover, the pattern of rapid growth followed by no or slow growth is not an indicator of endotherm.
As we can see the author and the lecturer holds very conflicting views on the dinosaur to be endotherms. Thee speaker effectively challenges the writer’s argument.
