The reading and lecture are both both about the colonization of asteroid. The author of the reading states that it is advantageous while the lecturer disagrees. He metions there are not any scientific proof to prove it is beneficial and attacks each of the claim made in the article.
First, the author of the reading states that colonization grant imperative insights for various educational fields. In addition, it also acts as a step for future research. The lecturer believes there are flaws in the writer’s position, He contends that we even do not know about the number of asteroid and what resources they use so, it does not make any sense to believe asteroid provide valuable information for future endeavor.
Secondly, according to the writer colonization of asteroid is significant for the development of industries which eventually creates job opportunities for many. As a result, government and private company benefits from the burgeoning revenue of it. The speaker on other hand points out that although asteroid contain some precious resorces, nobody knows how much in quantity and worth it takes to bring back to earth. Thus, it is not cost effective and efficient for the economic growth.
Finally, the reading passage notes that colonizing is suitable for long term human survival as it prevent from deletorious effect of war and disaster. The professor rebuts this argument. He puts forth the idea that the asteroid is small and has not enough mass ans gravity therefore not applicable for human settlement in long run.
As we can see, the author and the lecturer holds very different views on the pros of colonization. The speaker effectively challanges the writer’s argument.
