Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific solutions proposed in the reading passage.
The reading and lecture are both about a glass material for modern buildings makes a problem for birds, which this issue causes millions of bird are harmed every year. The author of reading believes that there are three solutions that can help to solve this problem. The lecture challenges the statements made by the author. He is of the opinion that these solutions are impractical.
First of all, the author suggests that using on-way glass can help to birds which fly in the air without problem. It is important that one way glass causes birds cannot see in the building, therefore they will understand being a solid barrier and they will not try to fly through it. This solution is challenged by the speaker. He says when buildings have one-way glass they work as mirror because it can reflects. Furthermore, he argues that if birds see the reflection of the sky in the mirror, they would think is the sky and they will try to fly through it.
Secondly, the writer contends that colorful designs such stripes on a regular window can it is effectively. The article notes using color in buildings causes birds see the a pattern and thus avoid trying to fly through the glass. The lecture, however, rebuts this by asserting that when a regular window of a building has stripes pattern it makes unpainted spaces. He elaborates on this by mentioning that unpainted surfaces, which are like opening holes cause birds will try to fly through them, Moreover, professor mentions that in order to prevent birds doing this, unpainted spaces can be extremely small, but this work makes a dark space for room of building.
Finally, it is stated in the article that buildings can have a magnetic field to help birds that have accurate directions. The author establishes that birds have natural ability to sense magnetic signals, so if a building has electromagnets will help to birds determine directions and they can fly without a collision with a building. The lecture, on the other hand, posits that birds use magnetic signals in long distances not in short distances. He claims that birds in a short trip use their eyes and brightness of light, therefore using magnetic field has not impact on their determining.
