boat. However, they are far from perfect and in need of drastic improvement, regardless of what the
author in the reading may believe.

The lecturer discusses the usage of TED, which is stands for Turtle Excluder Device. This device is used by fishermen to catch shrimps without giving any damage to the other species who is bigger than the size of shrimps. However, the lecturer discusses it’s functionality and moreover claims that the machine needs an upgrade since many of the other species such as small sea turtles are still catching by the nets.

Secondly, although according to the passage the fishermen have to use the Turtle Excluder Device due to the passed law, in order to hunt shrimps, the lecturer highlights that many boat owners and fishermen are not using the device and moreover, it is extremely difficult to trace ships whether the device is using by them or not.

Additionally, the reading passage mentions that the USA is strictly controlling the import of shrimps by only allowing foreign products that certified with official usage of TED’s but on the contrary, the lecturer mentions many fishermen are using a fake certificate. Since every country has their own regulations to give the certification, it is quite difficult to detect the fake certificates from the original ones and this situation results with a big problem of monitoring.

To conclude, both the passage and the lecturer have different opinions on the functionality and proper usage of TED.
