three possible purposes of the Nazca lines

Essay topics:

three possible purposes of the Nazca lines

The reading passage provides three possible purposes of the Nazca lines while the lecturer disagrees with what is mentioned in the article. The main topics for contention are about the prediction of celestial events, artistic purpose and navigation.

To begin with, the reading part reckons the purpose of the lines is to predict celestial events. On the contrary, the listening passage points out that the evidence for that purpode becomes thinner and thinner. It sets an example that in the 1970s people use computers to predict celestial events more than these lines since computers are more accurate.

Secondly, the reading part esteems that the Nazca lines serve as an artistic purpose. Nevertheless, the listening material says that the lines are so large that we can't see the full picture on the ground. Since we can't observe them clearly, they aren't served as an artistic purpose.

At last, the reading part believes that navigation might be the purpose. However, the listening passage opposes this statement by setting monkeys as an example. It says that the monkeys' tails are circles and lead nowhere, which means that they don't have a practical use such as navigation.
