Endotherms are the animals which can keep their body temperatures constant under different climatic conditions. The given passage here supports that the dinosaurs were endotherms. The lecture, however, completely refutes this view.
Firstly, according to the passage dinosaur fossils in polar regions that dinosaurs were capable of living in cold climates as found in the polar regions. On the other, the lecture here opposes this view by stating that the polar regions at that time were much more warmer as compared to today. Also, there is a possibility that dinosaurs might be used to migrate to warmer areas at much lower temperatures or may be used to hibernate to cope with cold weather.
Secondly, as per the passage dinosaurs have their legs under their body, rather than on the side like crocodiles or lizards. legs under the body are typical of endotherms only which allows them to run. On contrary, the lecture suggests that legs of the dinosaurs under their body may be a feature to support their large body weight rather than helping them in running.
Lastly, the passage indicates that fossils of bones of dinosaurs have haversian canal system made up of nerves and blood vessels. The primary function of this system is to support the rapid growth of organisms as seen in endotherms. The lecture points towards the growth ring found in the dinosaurs, in addition to this haversian sytem. The growth things are suggestive of periods of rapid growth with periods of decreased growth in between. The endotherms grow rapidly, without any intermittent periods of cessation of growth.
