The reading and the lecture both discuss ecological certifications. While the reading passage states that this certifications can not be applied in the united states market, the lecture casts doubt this ideas by saying that there are good reasons for the wood companies to adopt this certifications.
First of all, the reading passage claims that customers do not pay attention to ecocertification labels. However, the professor points out that all the customers do not think the same way about certifications. Therefore, users can not be treated equally. Moreover, the professor says that many independent institutions that are in favor with this ecological certifications will promote this change.
Secondly, the reading passage argues that ecocertification will cost a lot of money; as a result, the customers will be affected in the price of the wood. The professor opposes to that ideas by explaining that people not only make decisions depending on the price, but also depending on other factors such as the protection of the enviroment and the quality of the product.
Finally, the reading expresses that american companies do not have to worry about ecocertification because most of the wood companies are in the united states , so they do not export so much wood internationally. The professor counters this idea by saying that even though the wood industry do not need to compete with international companies. This foreing companies could see an important target in the united states for the people who cares about the ecocertification and become competitors with the national companies.
