TPO-14 - Integrated Writing Task Every year, forest fires and severe stormscause a great deal of damage to forests in the northwestern United States. One way of dealing with the aftermath of these disasters is called salvage logging, which is the practice

The passage discusses that every year there are forest fires and severe storms that can cause damages to forests. So, for decreasing these damges there is a solution that calls salvage logging. The reading provids three reasons that states the benefint of this method. While the professor rejects all these three reasons by explaining that these reasons are not convincing at all.
First, the text claims that after a devastation fire, forests are full of dead trees. So, if we do not remove this trees there will insufficient empty spaces to grow new plants. Also, the decomposition process of dead trees needs a lot of time and these amount of time will prevent the new trees to grow because of lack of space, too. The professor explains this reason is not true, Also, she describes that the ground needs these nutritions to be fertile. By do not having nutrients, new plants cannot grow very wellin forests. As a result, the mentiones reason in the passage rejected by professor.
Second, the reading asserts that decaying wood in forest can be a suitable habitat for many insects that they are harmful to healthy trees. So, by removing these dead trees we can have a suitable atmosphere for other trees. However, the professor says that these trees are not the habitats just for harmful insects. Consequently, she explains that most ofthe time these trees are habitats for birds and other animals. So, removing these trees is not a wise action. Third the text argues that salvage logging has economic benefits and many factories depend upon the forests for prpducing their products. In contrast, the professor describes that there are small benefits of using these dead trees. Also, she contends that most of the time the jobs in these industries and companis are temporary. As you can see, removing dead trees because of these nonsense goals is not a good way.
