The reading and the lecture are both about the difficulty in uncovering and studying the old archaeological sites in England. The reading provides three reasons that hinder such process, however, the speaker casts doubts on each one of them.
First, the article claims that because of the huge construction work that have been done during the recent years, a lot of these precious artifacts have been lost and not preserved. The professor, on the other hand, points out that the government has issued a law that prevents any construction before examining the land for any possible archaeological remains.
Second, the author of the reading argues that there is no financial funding for the excavating work form the government. The speaker, in contrast, explains that the new building regulations force the construction companies to pay any expenditure required for excavating the land before the beginning of the construction. As, a result, the financial support is not a problem anymore.
Third, the text claims that there no vacancy for archaeological jobs in the universities. and the that kind of job has not become popular or profitable. The professor refutes this point as well. He elaborates that with the new laws and the required money before any building process, the career of the archaeologists has flourished and became more lucrative to the extent that created many professional people in that field of study and work.
