The passage claims that the urban of human population affects the number of birds in The United States as the result of expanding in agriculture areas and using of pesticides. However, the lecture refutes every reason mentioned in the passage delving into many explanations for their claim.
For the first reason of decreasing the number of birds mentioned in the passage related to the growth of human population which results in disappearing of the bird's habitat like forests, wetlands, and grasslands and converting them to homes, malls and offices for the use of human. However, the lecture clarified that even though the urban caused shrinking in number of some kinds of bird's population, but it also provided better habitat to other kinds causing the increase in their growth like birds living near the beaches and the railroads.
Another reason impacts birds immediately according to the passage is the growing of agricultural areas which get along with the growing of human people, and as a result of that more and more birds habitat will turn to rural arear in order to provide people with products. On the other hand, the lecture refutes this idea asserting that less and less number of lands are using for agriculture purposes in the United States every year because people tend to produce crops more effectively by not destroying more areas.
The third reason responsible for decling bird's population mentioned in the passage is the effects of pesticides using to increase crops in the poisoning of the bird's food and water and deceasing their ability to reproductive. On the contrary, the lecture says that this reason is completely unconvincing according to the fact that nowadays everyone is aware to the harmful effects of the pesticides, and the farmers in their turns use new and cost pesticides causing no harm to the birds, and the plants as well are now modified to resist the pests and insects by themselves causing no negative effects on the birds.
