The reading and the listening are about Torreya tree which is endangered species of tree in the state of Florida. The author provides three solution to save this tree. The lecturer challenges the solutions provides by the writer. He is of opinion that none of these are the keys to solve the problem.

First of all, the author believes that re-establishing the tree at the same location can be helpful to save the tree, it is mentioned that Torreya tree usually grow in the wetter and cooler environment. However, the lecturer claims that it is not successful technique, because there is a lot of change in the climate because of global warming. He establishes the point that in northern wet lands are drained, so it becomes drier now, therefore, it is not the possible solution.

Secondly, the writer suggests that assisted migration can be helped to prevent decline of species, he notes that different location far away from microclimate can be a suitable idea to re-grow this plant. The lecturer, on the other hand, refutes the point by mentioning that in the past, the black local tree was relocated in other area and it spreads so quickly which causes threaten to the other flora and fauna. That’s why it is not a good idea.

In the last, it is stated that preservation of this species in the research centre can be helpful to protect and research can be conducted to ensure its continuously survival. On the flip side, the lecturer mentions that this is a diverse and large species which is difficult to preserve in the research centre, he puts the point further that he can not resist the diseases and survival is almost impossible. In this way, he refuted all the solutions.
