In this set of material, the reading passage is about 3 reasons which support Zebra mussel' invasion is not controllable in the new habitat. In the lecture the professor disagrees with the reading passage's notifications.
First, according to the reading, being unstoppable of Zebra mussel's distribution via ships is important factor at developing this space at all of North America. However, the professor asserts that now the human's knowledge can help to solve this problem. For example, salty water can kill Zebra mussels in ship's ballast water.
In addition, reading passage mentions that the Zebra mussels' population increases because of two reasons: first, high rate of their reproduction and second, not being available any predators; But in the lecture the professor explains that birds eat Zebra mussels and prevent them from extra existence.
Last but not least, the passage believes that Zebra mussels as competitors have critical roll in decrease of planktons which are the common food for many freshwater fish species. As a result, they cause decline in fish's population. The professor declares even though they affect on planktons, but in contrast, Zebra mussels have positive roll in new habitat' food chain by providing more nutrient in bottom of ocean through their bodies' debries.
