The main topic of both the lecture and the passage is Peary's jounry to North Pole. There are many doubt about this journey. The passage presents three reasons to prove the accuracy this journy. On the other hand, the professor rejects all reasons.

First, the reading claims that National Geography proves Peary's journey by investigating his records. On the other hand, the professor rejects this reason and claims that National Geography declares Peary's journey, but it is not worth trust because they composed the story of Peary's friends who invest great money on his trip. Moreover, this investigation just lasted 2 days, so they did not examine Peary's record carefully.

Second, the reading claims that Avery's journey can prove the time of Peary's journey, which was debatable because it just lasted 37 days .However, the lecturer rejects this reasons because he believes that Avery's journy was very different from Peary's journy. They used similar sled but Avery carreid less weight compared to Peary because Avery did not carry food. He got his food by airplane. In addition, whether condition in Avery's journey was very favorable; however, Peary encounter to awful condition.

Third, the passage claims that Peary's photo of her journey can prove its cliam because the position of sun was determined in the North Pole. One the other hand, the professor claims that the technich which use to determine sun position demand precise tools. The Peary's photos which was taken hundred years ago with unfocused and basic camera are unreliable. Moreover, these photos become faded and blur, which cannot calculate the exact sun'position.
