Although the author provides some important hypotheses to support the idea that Edmontosaurus migrated every winter in order to survive, the professor finds them dubious and brings up some counter reasons to refute them all.
Firstly, the author claims that the lack of food resources such as plants led them to move from North Slope to South in cold winter. However, the professors gainsays this idea and states that Edmontosaurus had proper condition during summers and they accessed to plentiful amount of plants and vegetation. Thus, during cold and dark winters, they could feed on dead plants remained from summers.
Secondly, the author argues that moving in herd is a good opportunity for having better migration coordination and according to their dug-out skeleton, they moved in herd which means that they migrated toward south in groups. In contrast, the professor asserts that moving in herd might have some other meaning for animals such as keeping themselves safe from the danger of predators. For instance, some elks move in herd to protect themselves from being prey.
Thirdly, the author mentions the fact that Edmontosaurus were able to run so as fast enough as to reach warmer place during harsh climate. On the other hand, the speaker states that however they run fast, the younger Edmontosaurus could not reach themselves to other members of herd and they made their migration slow. Moreover, they could not let them alone and others had to stay.
