Question: Summarise the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they case doubt on specific points made in the reading passage.
Edmontosaurs would migrate Alaska's North Slop
The listening and the reading materials have a debate on "if a special kind of dinosaur (Edmontosaurs) would migrate from their habitat in Alaska's North Slop to more warmer places". The penman puts forward 3 main hypotheses, which refuted by the following orator.
First of all, the writer suggests that Edmontosaurs 's food was plants, because plants could not grow in Alaska's climate, they forced to migrate to finding food. On the contrary, the speaker views this issue from an opposite angle. According to her, that region was warmer before and plant could utilize sun light and be available during winter, thus it was not no need to immigrate for finding food.
The second point offered by the author is that these dinosaurs had lived in group and this attitude proofs their migration. On the other hand, the professor casts doubt on this assumption by saying that living in herd does not mean that they were migrating; because living in swarm may be related to other purposes such as protection from predators. For example, elks in the western of US live in herd but do not migrate.
Lastly, the reading passage proposes that body abilities makes possible that Edmontosaurs could run far distance to warmer conditions. However, the lecturer holds a different view. She explains that juvenile of dinosaurs could not have the physically abilities such as their parents for running far distances. In addition, their parents could not left them alone. These babies could not survey alone by themselves.
In all, the ideas mentioned in the speech counter the opinions in the text according to above reasons.
