TPO-31 - Integrated Writing Task A fossil skeleton of a dinosaur called Sinosauropteryx, preserved in volcanic ash, was discovered in Liaoning, China, in 1996. Interestingly, the fossil included a pattern of fine lines surrounding the skeletal bones. Some
a fossil skelton of dianasur called Sinaosaurpterys inclide a pattern of line surrounding the skeltone bones. Although Some palentologists interpret the line as evidence that Sinaosaurpterys had feathers. The reading claims that critics have oppesed idea for sevral reason that Sinosauropteryx was a feathered dinosaur. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all.
The author argues that the fine line may formed after animal death. Its skin may have decomposed into fibres. The skin fibers then became preserved as lines in the fossil; the line misinterpreted as evidence of feather. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that if these lines are due to the decomposition of the skin why there wasn’t on the other animal that was discovered on the same site.
Furthermore, the reading passage holds the view that the line surrounding the skelton are much likely to be fossiles ramains of frills than remanins of feathers. On the contrary, the professor underlines the fact that frill and feather are compeletly different in chemical material. Feather are made up a proteain that contain beta-cratin while frilles do not contain any beta-cratin. The studies show that the sign of these proteoin in fossils.
Finally, the reading asserts that feathers are basically used in bird for flying and regulate their internal temprature. but these lines were located where that it seems they are useless. In contrast, the speaker dismisses this issue due to the fact that feathers are not only used for regulate their internal temprature or fly, in some birds like pitch-hog has long feather in its tail to attract a mate matting. Survey show that Sinosauropteryx had colorful feather like orange or red that assumed feathers were used for display.
