One of the challengeable discovery in Scotland is about carved stone balls. The main purpose of them is remained a mystery yet but archaeologists are trying to demystify it.The reading presents some claims about the purpose of carved stone balls. In the lecture the professor, however, believes none of the reading's reasons are convincing.

First, the reading explains these carved stone balls was used in fighting or hunting. the professor states that it could not be one of its application. Because their surfaces were not proper to this goal and they were cracked easily.

Moreover, in contrary to the statement in the reading that carved stone balls were used to weighting system, the professor contends that although these stones were uniform but they had different density. In other words, there were different types of carved stone balls and they were diverse in density. For example, some carved stone balls had the same size but they were not same in weight so they could not be reliable criteria for weighing or measurement.

Finally, the reading demonstrates that carved stone balls shown social status of their owners and emphasized that their owners were the important person in the society. Nevertheless, the professor clarifies that it can not be in the account. Due to some carved stone balls had integrated pattern and some of the had simple pattern, it did not show anything about their owners.
