TPO-42 - Integrated Writing Task
The main idea of both the passage and the talk is about glass windows' effects on birds. In the text, the author claims that there are some viable solutions which should be contemplated to lessen the bird's injury by glass windows. The lecturer challenges all the solutions mentioned in the reading. He is of the opinion that none of these methods is effective.
Firstly, the reading passage holds the view that using one-way glass rather than regular windows is very practical because the birds are able to distinguish the clear side of them. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that one-way glass has some negative consequences. Moreover, he argues that one-way glass is like a mirror and reflects shine. Therefore, if the birds see the picture of either sky or trees in these glass, they will fly towards them.
In addition, the author asserts that implementing colorful lines or other patters on regular windows will dwindle the birds' injuries. The lecturer, on the other hand, rebuts this solution and posits that these lines or patterns have some flaws. Besides, he says that the birds will consider these lines as an hole and strive to fly through them. Thus, the will be injured.
Eventually, the author mentions artificial magnetic filed which is called magnetic compass as a solution to control the birds direction. The lecturer, however, dismisses this idea by pointing out that birds utilize magnetic filed when they want to transfer from one place to other places which are far such as migration from warm places to cold one. Moreover, rarely have they been used magnetic field for short distances and in most of the cases, the birds use their eyes to navigation. Therefore , these solution will not be effective.
