TPO 42 task 1
The reading claims that there are some solutions for stopping birds got injured when they try to fly throgh glass windows. However, the lecturer finds all ideas dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all.
The author argues that one-way glass can be used to solve this issue. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that this solution has it's own problem. He explains that birds see one-way glass as a reflector like a mirror which it is as bad as regular glass. He indicates that since birds dont understand the mirror, they can see the reflaction of a tree or sky in the glass and assumed that it is actual tree or sky so they can fly through them. Consequently they'll get hurt by this solution.
Furthermore, the reading posits that another solution is to use colorful lines or other designs on regular window glass in order to prevent birds get hurt. On the contrart, the professor underlines the fact that this solution also has it's own problem. He asserts that birds can see the unpainted part as a open holes and try to fly right through them. He explains that the only way that this solution may work is to make unpainted parts very small which is not good since, inside the room will get too dark.
Finally, the reading holds the view that another solution is to create an artificial magnetic field to guid birds away from building. It explains that birds have a natural abiliyu to sence Earth's magnetic fields. In contrast, the speaker dismissed this issue due to the fact that although it is true that birds use this ability to determine their right direction, they use this ability only for long distance trip. The professor explains birds use this ability to migrate from a cold place to a warmer place in the winter as an example to illustrate this fact that birds do not use this ability for short trip like from this side of city to another side. They only use their eyes and brightness of light for short trip.
