The reading passage claims that a European silver coin was discovered date back to the 11th century in the state of Maine in the U.S and majorities of people are inclined toward the opinion that European travelers brought this coin to America. But there are many pieces of evidence that represent this coin is not genuine historical evidence, as said archeologists. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all.

First, the author contends that because of great distance from Norse to America it is impossible to find such silver coin due to thousand kilometers. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that alongside with the coin, other objects are also found from faraway places and there is historical explanation for those finding. Indeed, America settlers were interested in objects from far places.

Furthermore, the author holds the view that no other coin has been found in the Canadian site, which traveled into North America. On the contrary, the professor underlines the fact that Norse people always packed up valuable objects when they return to the Europe. In fact, there is a possibility that they took back the coins with themselves.

Finally, as set forth by the author even if Norse people brought silver coin, native North America did not recognize those coins as money and they were useless. In contrast, the speaker dismisses this issue due to the fact that people in North America valued unusual objects and they were interested in them because they used because of beauty or used them in making jewelry or bracelets.
