The passage states that pterosaurs, an ancient group of reptiles, were not capable of powered flight. However, the lecturer holds an opposite view.
Firstly, the passage points out that pterosaurs are very likely cold-blooded, and cold-blooded animals are normally unable to produce enough energy for powered flight. However, in the lecture, the professor argues that there were heavy hair and fur over pterosaurs, which made them like warm-blooded animals. Therefore, there is a large possibility that pterosaurs have substantial energy for powered flight unlike other normal cold-blooded animals.
Secondly, the lecturer claims that although pterosaurs is extremely large, its weight is not so heavy to the extent to which it cannot make powered flight. Pterosaurs' bones are hallow instead of solid, and this decline the weight, which made them light enough to make powered flight.
Thirdly, the passage holds that all animals with powered flight must have the capability of taking off the ground, but pterosaurs did not have powerful muscles in their back legs to finish this action. The lecturer points out the differences between birds and pterosaurs. While birds can only use two limbs to launch, pterosaurs can use four limbs to launch. In other words. they could not just use their back legs to push off from the ground, so it is okay although they didn't have strong muscles in back legs.
