The lecture and the reading passage both discuss endangered species of frogs and their extinction and the ways that can be applied to prevent the decrease in frogs population and offer two oppsoing views on these solutions. The passage highlights that the populations of frogs can be saved by using these methods. However, the lecture challenges what the passage proposes and refutes them because they are not practically useful.
First of all, the author of the passage highlights that the population of frogs can be saved by imposing a ligal restriction on the use of pesticides, which a chemical poison used against incests, due to its harmful effects of frogs. Not having been convinced, the speaker asserts that this is not a pragmatic resolutions for the problem. She proceeds to say that farmers are economically dependent on this poison and imposing strict laws agaist it will definitely affects the amount of their crops and as a result, their products will not able to compete with other farmers' and that's why this solution is not fair.
Moreover, the passage contends that frogs should be treated on a large scale by the newly discovered medication to be able to survive agaisnt negative effects of the fungus. On the contrary, the professor declares that this solution is impractical. She elaborates that this treatment must be administered on every individual frog which is impossible to catch all of the population of the frogs in an area. Furthermore, this treatment must be done to every new generations of frogs which make it more impossible.
The lecture does not approve the third solution stated by the passage which is limitting the use of water for developments in human societies. She contends that the global warming is the major contributor to the destruction of frogs' habitats, not human activities. Therefore, if we want to preserve the frogs, we have to find a way to control the global warming.
