Based on the given materials, the article as well as the lecture discusses the ways of controlling the salt level in The Salton Sea in California. The author states three ways to encounter this problem. That being said, the lecturer provides several reasons to repudiate this claim since she thinks, it is not practical.

Initially, the author says that they could remove salt from lake's water directly in special desalination facilities. However, the lecturer explains that this way may be jeopardize. On the other hand, releasing type of chemical toxic substance causes health risk to the extend that could be harmful.

Second, the writer proclaims that an another option to reduce salt which dilute the salt level in lake with water from the Ocean. Yet again, the speaker underscores that this option needs pipelines and canals as length of 100 Km roughly. Constructing of these pipelines and canals could be expensive and they do not have enough resource to build these.

The final point of contention between reading and listening passages is constructing walls to divide the into several section. The author thinks by constructing these walls, they are able to allocate the lake's water into special sections. On the other hand, the speaker explains that this option could be effective in short-term. For very long, it cannot solved the issue. Furthermore, An earthquake could be collapse all these walls and mixed back the water from the specific zone into other zones.
