The lecture and the reading both discuss if Robert Peary reaches the pole or not. While the reading states that Peary reached the pole and enumerates three reasons of support, the lecture refutes this, saying that there were no solid evidence and the reasons mentioned in the reading were not convenient.
first of all, the reading claims that investigation of peary record that he reached the pole. However the lecture argues that the investigations are not completely objective. Furthermore, the professor states that the people who did the investigations were Peary friends. They contributed some money to do the investigations Moreover, the investigations were done in 2 days, the investigations were biased.
In addition, the reading makes the argument that Tom Avery made the same trek in less than 37 days, and that prove that peary trip was true and he reached the pole. The lecture counters this point by stating that the two trips were totally different. The weather condition during Avery trip was better than Peary trip. According to the professor Avery did not take any food or heavy materials with him on his slit.
Lastly, the reading passage argues that some photographs support the claims that surf position of the sun at the pole during Peary trip was the same as the surf position of today’s sun. the lecture refutes this claim by pointing out that the photographs are not a prove that Peary reached the pole. Moreover, the photographs were not established the sun. they were shaded and worn.
