The reading passage asserts that in 1768 population of Steller's sea cow became extinct and provided three reasons for the extinction of supports. on the other hand, the professor claims that the author reasons are not correct and refutes each of them.
First, the article believes that native Siberian people might have caused the extinction of sea cow by overhunting. However, the lecture rejects this point by explaining that the sea cow is very large and it is approximately 10 tones which native could not have hunted them due to the sea cow was huge. Also, the native Siberian people was not large and they did not need this enormous food.
Second, the author states that declining of this animal may have happened due to the destruptive ecosystem that affects food supply such as kelp population. in contrast, the speaker opposites this point by arguing that in 1768 most of plants and animals existed and this can not be the decrease of kelp population because there were a lot of whales at that area. Moreover, kelp grew very well.
Third, the reading posits that when European arrived in this regain they lead see cow to extinct because they traded fur of this animal and hunted them again and again. On the opposite, in the listening, the professor says that sea cow population hah declined before European arrived, according to the professor the see cow members was not large that these people hunt them.
