Both the reading and lecture are about cloud seeding which is a specific and chemical approach. In this method, researchers attempt to become hail to snow or rain with the help of a chemical reaction- spraying silver iodide on storm clouds- to reduce the crop damages in the farming regions. The reading provides three reasons in supporting this idea. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article and finds all of arguments dubious.

First of all, the author of reading declares that scholars tested this approach in laboratory atmosphere and they could become cold water vapor ( is called hail) to snow and rain with adding silver iodide. This point is challenged by the professor. She points out that it may be true only in the laboratory ambient; however, in the real life, this chemical reaction is unpredictable and it may cause drought; consequently the condition will get worse for crops.

Secondly, the article contends that this experiment has been reported as a prosperous way from some countries like Asia and they would have controlled precipitation efficiently; in the contrast, the lecturer believes that successful obtained results in Asia cannot guarantee that this prosperity can repeat in The United State. She elaborates on this by mentioning that these experiments have done in the big cities, so since there is the air pollution in the big cities, so the mentioned chemical reaction can combine with the particles of pollution and create a logical result; however, the cloud seeding in the farming areas and out of cities cannot be a secure method.

Finally, the reading passage states that there is some local evidence from being appropriate the cloud seeding approach and the local farmers could reduce the crop damages due to hail. This argument is rebutted by the professor. She expresses that aforementioned evidence is related to the areas of west, east, north and it may have been a natural phenomenon in reduction of hail in a specific time of year and not the successful of cloud seeding.
