Both the reading and the listening talk about theories explaining high pitch voice of a 52-hertz whales. The former asserts that there are some hypothesis which shows why these whales have special sound. The professor, on the other hand, casts doubt on it one by one by saying that scientists have trouble trying to explain this unusual song of whales and also its uniqueness remains mystery which goes as follows.
First of all, both the article and the lecture posit whether hybridation is a possible explanation. The passage suggests that maybe its 52 hertz voice is due to hybrid offspring coming from interbreeding of two different species. The lecturer, in contrast, rejects the idea by pointing out that their migration pattern is unusual. He adds that these hybrid animals must follow their parents' migration habits, but they don't. Also, location of 52 hertz whales shows a strange migratory pattern which they may migrate alone. Therefore, the first reason does not seem to be correct.
Second of all, both the author and the professor put forward whether these animals had hearing or not. The author claims that those whales had damaged hearings because of different sound they create. The speaker, however, rebuts this by explaining that high pitch vocal comes from their physical structure locating in whale's throat. As a result, their throat must be strange which makes them able to produce high frequency voices. But, there is not strong evidence to illustrate a correlation between damaged sense of hearing and throat structure. So the second proposal is invalid too.
Third, both the text and the speaker put forth the likelihood of being rare species. The article avers that maybe this special animals are members of a nadir species died out. The lecture, conversely, refutes it by holding that they are not rare species due to the evidence brought about by subsea technologies that their parents could hear voices but not one of them heard something before this experiment. So the third proposition is incorrect.
