we are witnessing a very large hype about colonization of mars. But we should actually colonize Saturn's moon Titan. If we are willing to start the colonization of our solar system.
The article and the lecture both discusses about the colonization of humans on Mars. While the author says that habitable zone of Titan would be more preferred than the Mars. The lecturer opposes the claims made by the writer in the article.
Firstly, the writer claims that the atmospheric pressure of Titan is similar to that of Earth. However, the lecturer claims that atmospheric pressure is not the only thing required for colonization. In addition, the lecturer also explains that Human settlement requires water for existence. Whereas, Titan have reserves of methane which can only be used as fuel.
Secondly, the reading of the text says that Titan’s gravity is lower than Earth which can help in reducing the fuel usage by rockets for take-off. On the other hand, the lecturer opines that low gravity have shown to have negative effects on Heart rate of humans as seen in astronauts. The lecturer also explains that lower heart rates would be dangerous in long run for human beings.
Lastly, the authors asserts that though Titan is far from Earth compared to Mars lowered fuel use can make it certain to colonization. In contrast, the lecturer explains that it would take more time for humans to send message or required material to Titans than Mars. According to lecturer it won’t be convenient for humans to begin settlement on Titan.
