Nowadays it is very popular to be technology/internet literate. Some people say that these skills will replace the use of books as main source of information and entertainment. Do you agree or disagree?
Internet and technology has become a vital part in our daily life. Once a person is connected to the Internet, a whole new world is brought about through the computer screen. Some people say that this development will replace books in the near future when people want to entertain or find information. However, this is unlikely to happen as books have many advantages over internet.
First of all, books are reliable sources of information. When we read information in a book, we know who the author, who is the publisher is. Online information is vast but it is confusing. For example, a keyword on Google will show many results, but we are not sure whether they are true or not.
Reading books gives us pleasure. We can sit anywhere, any time…but online books depend on computer, internet and electric power. It is far less convenient, and it is not good for our eyes if we stare at the screen for too long.
Finally, a book has value. We can sell an old book for money. We can give it as a present. We can make a book collection and show it to our friends. But we cannot do that with information on computer and internet, can we?
To sum up, I personally prefer books to internet as it is more interesting, convenient and healthy. And I think others feel the same. Thus, books will not be replaced by the Internet or modern technology as a source of information and entertainment. I’d say that both will exist and support each other.
