Productivity and Rewards
The passage here is all about "Productivity and Rewards". It implies that if a human being is appreciated for his work then he/she tends to repeat quite frequently. For supporting that different reasons are stated. The appreciation could be in any form like rewards, extra compensation, promotion, etc. On the contrary the lecture gives the points which can be a counterfeit to the passage given.
The lecturer has some arguing points for the topic. Firstly, the lecturer talks about the mindset of the employees and how it could be in different situations. He tells that the employees might be thinking in a way that they are getting manipulated by the award schemes and that might have a negative effect to their approach to work and at the end it might reflect in their work. The most important thing for any employee could be self esteem and respect, and if they are given the respect for the work they do then it is the best way to encourage them. So this might be the first case which doubt the reward system.
Adding to that, the lecturer says that the employee might hide some flaws and difficulties he/ she might be having while working on a particular project due to the reward system. The employee might be thinking in a way that if he/she will be asking the query to his superior then that might be counted as his/her minus point. So not to risk his/her award the employee might do the work with certain mistakes and due to that the quality of the project would be less than expected. This could also be the case where reward system is doubted by the lecturer.
The third argument he stated was, if the employee is not that much intelligent and quick in work then he might not complete his/her work on the scale which is required to get the reward. That system might feel him like a punishment. Also people might not get the awards they expected for themselves which can turn into a negative point for the reward system.
These are the various points which were made by the lecturer to counter the reward system.
