The table illustrates the total amount spent by five different countries on three items in 2002. The units are measured in percentages. Overall what stands out from the table is that all 5 European nations had the highest expenditures on a first category (food, drink and tobacco), but the least expenditures on leisure and education.
With regards to food, drink and tobacco, Turkey consumed much amounting to nearly one third (32.14%) of the total expenses which was slightly higher than Ireland at 28.91%. The remaining three countries invested between 15% and 17%. For clothing and footwear, although Italy was second last in the spendings on the first component, it topped the lists at 9%. The expenses were just over 5% for Turkey, Ireland, Sweden and Spain.
Looking at the details for leisure and education, Turkey again allocated loads at 4.3% that was double of Ireland (2.21%). While the budget of Spain stood at 1.98%, which was the lowest, compared to others, the disbursement of Italy and Sweden were fairly similar at 3.20% and 3.22% respectively.
