The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport.

Given is the graph illustrating the amount of wares conveyed by various types of vehicles during 1974-2002 in the UK. It is clearly seen that there were some fluctuations in all types of transports.

A glance at the graph reveals that, in general, the amount of goods carried by roads lead during the indicated period, and fluctuated between 70 and 97 million tonnes. In contrast, the smallest amount belonged to pipelines which transported only 5 million tonnes in 1974, and after being stable during 1981-1992 it began to increase slightly and reached 21 tonnes in 1996 which had not changed until 2002.

Moreover, the indicators of water and rail were similar in 1974, precisely, the lines even overlapped till 1977. Afterwards, the gap between the quantity of wares conveyed by water and rail began widening, to be more specific, most of people preferred to carry over the water whereas rails lost popularity. Consequently, in comparison with rails, water transportation reached 62 million tonnes and become the second biggest indicator in 2002.

Overall, it can be noted that in the UK the most popular transport type was rails and this trend had not changed during 28 years.
