1. Tobacco, mainly in the form of cigarettes is one of the most widely used drugs in the world. Over a billion adults legally smoke tobacco every day. The long-term health costs are high- for the smokers themselves, and for the wider community in terms of health care costs and lost productivity. Do Governments have a legitimate role in protecting citizens from the harmful effects of their own decisions to smoke, or are such decisions up to an individual?”
Today, smoking is widely spreading over the world. Smoking helps to describe a status nowadays, the teenagers thinks that it’s look cool to smoke. Smoking is the curse to the people. Cigarettes are the cause of cancer and many other diseases. Over a billion adults legally smoke every day. Thus, government should take initiative towards, this harmful effect and individual also think about this. Therefore I think government has a legitimate role over protecting the citizens from smoking. In this essay, we discuss action taken by government.
Firstly, governments should increases the cost of cigarettes and reduce the production of cigarettes. For example, when the cost of cigarettes increases it will redeem the production then people will buy less and smoke less. Thus, it will decrease the health cost and increase productivity. Therefore, government should take some measures towards smoking.
Secondly, government should make an age limit to smoke. For example, every shopkeeper should have seen id proof and give cigarettes to them. It helps to restrict teenagers to smoking. Thus, individual also should stop smoking which help to improve their health. Therefore, it’s also up too individual to take some decision over smoking.
In the conclusion, government should take effective measure to reduce smoking it’s also individual who have to take decision. Thus, government should increase the price and age limit of smoking should be decided. Therefore, it helps to decrease the health cost and improve health.
