TPO-26 - Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they challenge the specific theories presented in the reading passage.
In the reading, the author claims that the zebra mussle which is originally an Eastern European freshwater shellfish has recently occupied some parts of North America habitats and this can be a countinues threat to North American freshwater fish populations by pointing out tree reasons of support. However, finding all the ideas questionable and implausible, the lecturer totally repudiates the ideas and presents some evidence to contrary.
At first, the author asserts that the invasion of zebra mussel's has a historical clue which seems it can not become ceased easily and the North American habitats entirely will get occupied soon. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that the historical clue is not reliable since nowadayes the ships which have been mentioned in reading passage benefit from new ways which prevent them from carrying zebra mussles.
In addition, the reading passage holds the view that if zebra mussels carried to a new settlement they would proliferate with a high rate and dominate the region since they have no serious predature. On the other hand, the lecturer disputes this point by clarifying this fact that there are some birds that like to eat zebra mussles and prey them in the new area.
Finally, the author asserts the declination of fish population as the last point for supporting the zebra mussles invasion side effect. The lecturer, though dismisses it by pointing out that the negative impact goes only for fish which are dependent on plankton, while it can bring positive effects for buttom fish which are not plankton dependent.
