The reading and listening passage have conflicting opinion about solutions to prevent birds to be harmed when they try to fly through glass windows. The author of the suggests three solutions. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article and brings up three reasons to support it. he thinks none of them can effectually stop birds to be injured.
The first point the author makes is to replace regular glass with transparent in only one direction. It is mentioned that while birds cannot see through a window, they will consider it as a solid barrier. The lecturer opposes this point by explaining that one-way glass reflects like mirror. He states that the birds still will fly three it because they will see reflection of sky and trees in that glass.
Secondly, the author contends that painting colorful line can be beneficial. The article notes that stripes will avoid the birds to fly through the window besides, people are able to see through the openings. On the contrary, the professor underlines the fact that the birds perceive the openings as open hole and still they will fly through it. she puts forward the idea this solution not only cannot solve the problem but also due to small openings the room will be dark.
Finally, the author states that creating artificial magnetic field can solve the problem. The article establishes that electromagnets can steer birds in a direction away from the building. This concept is refused by the lecturer which asserts that the birds use earth magnetic only for traveling long distances. For short distance, the use eyes and brightness of light therefore, this solution cannot be much effective.
In conclusion, the lecturer and the author appear to be in disagreement about how to prevents the birds from being injured by flying through building's windows. The author offers three ways to solve the problems, which are contradicted by the lecturer.
