In the reading, the author claims that a fossil of Tyrannossaurus rex (T.rex)which is a dinosaur might still have remains of the actual tissues of the animal by pointing out 3 reasons of support. However, finding all reasons questionable and implausible, the lecturer totally repudiates the claim and presents some evidence to the contrary.
At first, the author argues that by braking of the leg bone of the T. rex, a soft, flexible and organic substance was found in the channels of the bone and they might be the remains of the actual blood vessels. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that this soft and flexible substance is not neccessary the remain of vessels and probably is trace of something else. Long after death of an animal, the hollows in their body are colonized by bacteria; thus, this soft organic tissue must have been left by bacteria colony.
In addition, the reading passage holds the view that examination of the various parts of the inner side of the bone validates the presence of red blood cells. That being said, the lecturer disputes this idea by clarifying the fact that other fossils of dinosaur have indicated that they did not have any red blood cells; consequently, this traces could not have corresponded to blood cells and probably are remains of another reddish mineral.
Finally, the author draws attention to the presence of collagen which is a fibrous protein in the fossilized leg bone as the last point in supporting the claim. Yet again, the lecturer dismisses it by pointing out that collagen can not last for a long time; so, this collagen found in the bone might come from much more recent resources such as human skin, for example, researcher skin when they were handing the bone.
