The reading claims that pattern of fine lines which surrounded the skeletal bones is not evidence that the Sinosauropteryx were a feathered dinosaur. However, the professor explains that the reasons of the reading is unconvincing and presents some points to refute them all.
First, the author states that the fine line do not blong to a living dinosaur and it is feasible it formed after dinosaur's death. Conversely, the professor casts doubt on this point by saying that the dinosaur's fossil was buried in a place that its functional structure was well preserved and the fine line is not caused because of decomposing.
Second, according to the reading, scientists cannot tell what part of dinosaur's anatomy this fine line structure is. In fact, they believe the fine line is remains of the frill and it has nothing to do with feathers. In contrast, the lecturer opposes this point by saying that the substance of the frill and feather are different. He states that the feathers have some kind of proteins but the frills do not have this and the skeleton of dinosaurs have this kind of protein.
Third, Based on the reading, the usual function of feathers are to help animals fly or regulate their internal temperature and since they are located along the backbone and the tail of the animal. Hence, this suggests that the lines do not represent feathers. On the other hand, the professor states that the feathers have other functions. He gives an example of another animal name peacock which used its tail to attract mail. Also, Sinosauropteryx has colorful feather which displayed it and it has distinctive structure.
Therefore, the specific points mentioned in the reading do not make sense.
