The reading illustrates arguments about that the salvage logging is useful for both economic and damaged forest. The professor contradicts these theories by the following strong evidence.
Firstly, in the reading, it is said that it would be good option to help the new treescan to grow in the condition that dead trees are an obstacle for them. On the contrary, the lecture refutes the argument by stating that the natural decomposition helps to enrich the soil to be suitable for the future trees. Therefore, removing the dead trees using the salvage logging is a menace for fortifying the soil and therefore the new generation of the trees.
Secondly, even though the reading claims that the dead trees is a suitable teritory for the insects like the spurce bark beetle that high population of them damage the healthy spruce trees and the salvage logging presents a good idea to deal with this problem, the professor argues in the lecturer that the salvage logging not only is not a habitat for those insects, it also has a negative effect on the ecosystem in that area such as the bird and other insect living that play a vital role in forest healthy in the long term.
Thirdly, the passage says that the salvage logging is beneficial in terms of economic. However, the professor mentions an opposing view that since that present a costly because need some equipment such as helicopter. Furthermore, the job opportunities caused by it for the local residents are temporary.
