Extinction of sea cow
The lecture and the reading are both about the causes of sea cow extinction. The author of the reading mentions three reasons to support the evidences that show the sea cow extinction. On the other hand, the professor in the lecture casts dobpt on the claims made by author.
Firstly, the author asserts that the native Siberian people overhunted these animals. However, the lecturer states that the Sibrian's population were not so many; Consequently, they could not able to haunt many sea cows.
Secondly, the author points out that ecosystems disturbances caused a decreasing in sea cows' main food, kelp. However, the professor states that the changing of ecology should have affected other marin animals, such as wales; Nevertheless, they did not sea any changing on the number of other animals and did not did not have effect on the other animals' extinction.
Finally, the passage claims that the main cause of the sea cow's extiction was the European fur traders. Nonetheless, the lecturer says that the European traders came to Bering Island about 100 years after the sea cow's extinction. Hence, they could not able to haunt the animals who were not exist, and they could not the cause of sea cow's extinction.
