task 1: relative price changes of three different groups
The line graph compares the changes of three different food groups in terms of relative price from 1979 to 2009 and the overall trend in the consumer price index at the same period.
Overall, it is clear that the prices for fresh fruits and vegetables, sugars and sweets, and carbonated drinks all increased over the 30-year period. Additionally, the consumer price index experienced a rise, which only was lower than the rise for Fresh fruits and vegetables.
in 1979, the price for the Sugar and sweets began at above 50 and then went up dramatically to almost 120 in next decade. Meanwhile, both Fresh fruits and vegetables and Carbonated witnessed a sharp rise to nearly 150 and about 110 respectively in 1989. At the same starting above 50 in 1979, the consumer price index rose dramatically after the period of 30 years, ending at roughly 200, which overtaking the figure for Sugar and sweets, at approximately 200 and Carbonated drinks, at about 150.
Although the price for Fresh fruits and vegetables fluctuated, it continued to rise sharply by 150, reaching the final figure at 330 in 2009.
