Scholarship extension letter
To Whom It May Concern,
I, A.B.C., am studying the Doctor of Philosophy course at School of Engineering, E.D.F. University under the XYZ scholarship, with ID number 12345678. My primary supervisor is A/Prof. P.P. at School of Engineering, E.D.F. University. I commenced the program on 1st, Jan 2016 and is due on 1st, Jan 2018.
After my first year, I was facing many difficulties related to my first baby. I had a newborn in my second year of the Ph.D. program. It was really a tough pregnancy with morning sickness, difficulty sleeping and being stressed as that was my first time. I took an intermission of eight weeks as my maternity leave and that interrupted my studying. After birth, I had to spend more time to take care my baby and myself while going back to study. It is not easy for me and my husband, a full-time worker, take care of our newborn while studying and working without family support because they are living in Vietnam. Even being stressed, I often stayed up late for studying and taking care of him as well.
In fact, my baby's development was poor during his 1st year. His weight was not gaining normally and slower than the expected/standard growth at his age. Then, he started to go to the childcare center when I resumed my study. At that time, his condition became worse because he was not happy and refused to feed at the center. In addition, he was easy to get the infectious virus from the other children due to his weakened immune system. In his first week of day-care, he got Gastroenteritis infection. As a result, he had to stay at home for a week due to his illness. During his time at the center for more than one year, he had surfed on flu, croup and many infectious viruses including gastro, diarrhea, and hand-foot-and-mouth virus. He also got high fevers and runny nose whenever weather changed. Especially, he had to enter the emergency department at G. hospital after having a very high fever for 4 days and red spot on his body as GP recommendation. As he was not allowed to attend the child care center during his illness whenever he got any infectious disease. In addition, he was difficult in feeding, less drinking milk and eating food. His sleep was not quite good. During night time, he usually woke up and cried many times.
In consequence, it badly affected to the progress of my study. Therefore, I would like to apply for a 6-months extension of my scholarship so that I can complete a good dissertation.
I have enclosed some supporting documents from my GP and G. hospital for further information.
