TPO-33

The reading and the lecture are both about the carved stone balls artifact. It dated around 4,000 years ago. The article has provided several theories about the stone balls purpose. The lecture casts doubt on the argument made in the article. He is of the opinion that none of the theories are convincing.
First, the author suggests that the carved stone balls were used as the weapons. He believes that the Neolithic people would have used it for the hunting or fighting. The stone balls have been found with hole and groove on the surface. It suggests the stone balls were used as the weapons. This point is challenged by the lecture. He suggests that the if the stone ball would have used as weapons it should present the sign of wear on it. However, the stone balls are found cracked and in pieces, but the surface is not damaged. Hence, it is less likely to believe that the stone balls were used as the weapons.
Second, the author states that the Stone balls would have used as the measuring tool. He means that every ball is uniform in size-suggests that the balls were used as the standard unit of measure. The lecture refutes this idea. He explains that the balls are made up of different material, and it weighs differently. It does not matter if the balls are of the same size. Therefore, this theory is not convincing.
Third, the author states that the stone balls were used for the social purpose. He suggests that the stone balls represents the elaborate carving of their owner. However, the lecture, on the other hand, suggests that the stone balls did not found near the tune. He is of the opinion that if stones balls served the social purpose, it should be found near the grave of the people because they buried things with the people whom it belongs in the past. Therefore, this theory is not believable.
