The possibility of traveling to mars by humans
The passage and the talk both discuss the possibility of human travelling to the mars. The writer contends that because of many problems its impossible to go to trip to the mars by human being. The lecturer, however, refutes the author assessments. She demonstrates three reasons to cast doubt on the claims made in the reading.
The first allegation of the script against which the orator argues is that there is not enough shipment space to take all necessary food, water and oxygen for the astronauts for two years- the time that a mars trip would take. In contrast, the professor highlights the fact that passengers of the spaceship can use hydroponics process to gain their vital materials. using this method, they can cultivate grains that they need to feed on them in the water instead of soul. She further asserts that astronauts can use wasting water by evaporating it and making fresh water to drink. Also, the herbs they grew in the spacecraft transforms carbon dioxide into the oxygen, compensating for air limitations.
Second, according to the text, zero gravity condition has many detrimental effects on the humans so much so that makes them unable to survive for two years on the mars; although, the speaker finds this idea debatable. She bolsters her opinion by stating that astronauts have many practices for this problem and are prepared for this unfavorable condition. For example, they do some particular exercises and also use some drugs like calcium to reduce the destructive impact of zero gravity situation.
Lastly, the lecture contradicts this fallacy of the passage that it is impossible to add shield to spaceship in order to protect them from space radiation, saying that radiations are not always dangerous. What is more, spacecraft could be equipped with some detectors which alarm whenever the amount of radiations become hazardous. Also, they can add a small safe capsule for this dangerous condition for people to take shelter in there, and it would not result in so much extra weight.
