The diagram illustrates different sources and concentration levels of nitrogen in ground water of coastal city.
Overall, waste disposal and industries releases maximum Nitrogen in ground water;when compared with other sources.
In natural condition, lightning oxidizes Nitrogen whereas vegetation fixes it. Domestic and market waste add Nitrogen in water table through fertilizer and household wastes.Industries contribute in Nitrogen addition through leakage from storage tank and wastewater ponds.lastly, disposal of waste in landfills may lead to more Nitrogen in water table.
The groundwater flows, passing near to salt water interface, towards it's destination ocean and gets discharged into it;from groundwater discharge zone.some Nitrogen is taken up by soil particles, while other degassed. The higher concentration of Nitrogen is indicated by darker section on the illustration and this shows that heaviest concentration of Nitrogen comes from industry, household liquid waste and landfill. The concentration tend to decrease near salt water interface and between area of high concentration of Nitrogen which descend from industry and waste disposal.
