The charts below show the percentage of water used for different purposes in six areas of the world.
These six pic charts compare the proportion of water consumption by three different sectors namely domestic, agricultural and industrial in six regions in the world.
Firstly in North America, industry consumed around half of the total water used for all purposes. However, agricultural use accounted for just below two-fifths of the water consumption, approximately three times the amount of water used for domestic purpose.
Secondly, in Europe, water usage pattern was similar to that in North America since industry consumes the highest percentage of water consumption, followed by agriculture around 53% and 32%, respectively nevertheless. Domestic uses represented around half the amount used in agriculture.
On the other hand, agriculture in Africa, Central Asia, and South East Asia consumed more than four-fifths of the total water used in the 3 areas near 84%,88%, and 81%, respectively. Moreover, the percentage of water used in domestic uses were equal in Central and South East Asia 7%, just 2% lower than in Africa. Lastly, the percentage of water used by industry in South East Asia was 12% approximately double the amount in either Africa or Central Asia.
To sum up, it can be clearly seen that the pattern of water use was different in the 6 areas. However, agriculture consumed the highest proportion in South America, Africa, South East Asia and Central Asia while industry uses the highest percentage in North America and Europe.
