The graph below shows the unemployment rates in the US and Japan between March 1993 and March 1999.
The line graph compares two different countries namely the US and Japan in terms of their unemployment rate over the period of 6 years.
It is noticeable that the unemployment rate in the US saw a dramatic decrease over the period shown. By contrast, the figure for Japan rose significantly in each year.
In March 1993, the percentage of unemployment in the US accounted for the highest, at 7.0 percent. Meanwhile, the proportion for those who were jobless in Japan made up the lowest rate over the same period, which was below 2.5 percent. Although the two trends in both nations were completely different, the unemployment of the US in most years was higher than that of Japan.
Between 1993 and 1995, the unemployment rate of the US fell rapidly to approximately 5.4 percent. Unlike that of America, the rate in Japan saw a small rise during the same period, to above 3.0 percent by the year 1995. From 1995 to 1999, the figure of both countries fluctuated, but the portion varied more significantly in the US than they did in Japan. Just over the following year, the figure for jobless people in Japan overtook that in America and reached the highest point of the whole graph, around 4.7 percent while the rate in the US dropped to its lowest point by 4.1 percent.
