The provided chart demonstrates some data as regards metro lines in London, Paris, Tokyo, Washington DC, Kyoto and Los Angeles.
Regarding to the relatively ancient lines, London underground is considered as the oldest one because it was firstly operated in 1863 in comparison to Paris and Tokyo’s lines which were opened in 1900 and 1927 respectively. Moreover, London, Paris and Tokyo lines carry about 775 million, 1191 million, and 1972 million commuters annually. As a matter of lines’ length, London railways are considered the longest network among other cities.
Moving on to modern railways, Washington DC, Kyoto and Los Angeles undergrounds’ first journeys were in 1976, 1981 and 2001 in the same order. Whilst Washington DC’s one is 126 KM long and serves 144 million passengers a year, Los Angeles’s railway is 28 km and transport 50 million persons per year. By looking at Kyoto, its underground system is the shortest among others, hence it serves only 45 million.
Overall, old lines such as London, Paris and Tokyo serve the highest number of passengers, in contrast to modern ones which are considerably shorter and serve significantly less numbers.
