While your friend was away on vacation, you stayed in his apartment. While you were there you dropped an expensive bowl and broke it. Write a letter to your friend and in your letter explain
- what happened
- apologize for the accident
- tell your friend what you plan to do about the bowl.
Dear Tim,
I hope this letter finds you in good health. First of all, I want to thank you for letting me stay in your apartment until you are away on holiday and I am writing to apologize for an incident which took place in your absence. While washing the dishes, I mistakenly broke the ceramic bowl gifted by your grandmother.
I am totally disappointed about this accident as I have the responsibility to take care about everything in the apartment until you come back. Actually, yesterday I decided to cleaned-up everything in the house, and when I was washing the dinner set and this bowl in the kitchen sink, the bowl suddenly slipped from my hand and broken into two pieces. I am extremely sorry for this as it was an expensive birthday present and very close to your heart. All this happened just unexpectedly and was not my negligence.
I want to tell you that I found a similar bowl on a website selling antique mugs and ordered it for you. Meanwhile, I also send this bowl for repairing to one of my friends, who is expert in bone china products. I am sure that he will be able to fix in next four days.
I hope you won't mind about anything and do send me some photos of your vacation on my email about how well you are enjoying your vacation.
Best Regards,
John
