Summarize the points in the lecture, being sure to explain how they opposes specific points made in the reading passage.
Both, the reading and the professor are talking about appearance of professors on Television. The reading claims that appearance of Professors in television programs is beneficial for professors themselves, for universities, and for public also. However, the lecturer cast doubt upon them and opposes each of author’s claim.
First of all, the lecturer states that it is not good from their professional standpoint. They get the impression of non serious scholars but their appearance in TV programs counts as a entertainment. As a result, they are not invited in univerty’s important meetings and conferences. This disputes the reading which claims that this will increase their importance as a scholar not only in university but in more people.
Secondly, instead of utilizing their valuable time towards student’s help and other important university meetings, they will waste it towards figuring out what to present, travelling, rehersels and how to look good on these TV programs. He added that this will decrease unversity reputation. This is contradicts the reading which explains that appearance of professor in TV programs will increase the popularity of university. As a result, more funds and more appilcations of brighter students will come.
Finally, the lecture points out that TV networks don’t want intellectual substance but they only wants academic title. A TV reporter can provide that kind of material by little more homework. This refutes reading which claims that appearance of professors in TV programs is helpful for general public who cannot have a chance to learn from them.
