The pie charts below show units of electricity production by fuel source in Australia and France in 1980 and 2000.
The pie charts describe units of electricity production by fuel source in Australia and France from 1980 to 2000. Overall, it is clear that the number of total electricity production in both countries showed an upward trend during the twenty years, from 100 units to 170 units in Australia and from 90 units to 180 units in France.
Starting with Australia, coal was always the main source of electricity in the twenty years and its production nearly tripled from 50 units in 1980 to 130 units in 2000. Hydro power and natural gas created the same amount of electricity in 1980, but their production had different patterns in 2000. The figure for the former almost doubled to 36 units, while that for the latter declined dramatically to 2 units. Oil, accounting for the smallest part, suffered from a decrease from 10 units to 2 units during the twenty years.
Turning now to France, nuclear power, which was not used in Australia, became the most significant role in producing electricity in 2000, with a significant rise from 15 units to 126 units. At the same time, a slight increase can also be seen in oil from 20 units to 25 units. By contrast, the figures for natural gas and hydro power experienced a decrease to the lowest position at 2 units in 2000. The electricity production by coal remained stable in the meantime.
